One to Buy: Iridium Silver 1 of 32 Oz-delivery 2008 Mercedes-Benz CLK63 AMG Black Series

Unveiled at the New York Motor Show in April 2007, the CLK63 AMG Black Series was Mercedes’ second iteration of its Black Series line. Conceived as a street legal version of the official Safety Car used in F1 at the time, under the hood was a comprehensively uprated 500bhp version of AMG’s 6.3-litre V8 mated to a seven-speed Speedshift transmission with limited-slip differential and shortened rear final drive.
The chassis featured manually adjustable KW suspension, bigger drilled and vented composite disc brakes and 19-inch forged aluminium wheels shod with Pirelli P Zero Corsa tyres.
Externally, carbonfibre wheelarch extensions were installed along with new front and rear aprons (the latter with a massive exposed carbonfibre diffuser). Mercedes also added redesigned side skirts and an exposed carbonfibre lip spoiler for the trunk lid. Inside, new bucket seats were used up front, the rear seats were junked and loads more exposed carbonfibre was added along with a custom steering wheel and gear lever.

Of the 700 CLK63 AMG Black Series built, just 32 were originally delivered to Australia, one of which is currently on offer with the Classic Throttle Shop in Sydney.
Delivered in 2008, this particular machine was configured in the trademark colour scheme for an CLK63 Black Series: Iridium Silver. The first owner also requested ultra lightweight fabric-trimmed bucket seats as opposed to leather.
Unlike many of these cars, this one has been enjoyed as intended and is showing a little over 33,000km on the odometer. It comes complete with a fully documented maintenance history (with a most recent service by Mercedes-Benz Melbourne in April 2025) along with the original book pack.

Iridium Silver

It’s Sunday, the 16th of March 2008, and the sun shines over Melbourne with a blistering 39-degree day.
Lewis Hamilton in his McLaren Mercedes lines up next to Robert Kubica in his Sauber BMW on the front row of the grid. The lights go out, and 22 Formula One cars launch into the 2008 F1 season. As they charge into the first corner, chaos erupts as cars make contact and spin off in all directions.
Race control hits the big red button, and the new Mercedes-Benz CLK 63 AMG Black Series is deployed onto the circuit to wrangle the remaining F1 cars back into order.
The big 6.2-litre V8 rumbles to life with a deep snarl and basso profundo grumble. There’s more than a hint of the company’s DTM CLK race car in this vehicle’s appearance — with its prominent carbon-fibre front apron and rear diffuser, 19-inch forged alloys, and extroverted dual-exhaust tailpipes. Stomp the throttle and the exhaust note sharpens into an urgent, staccato beat as the 500+ hp launches the car with intent.
This Australian-delivered modern classic is one of only 32 examples sent down under, from a total of just 700 built worldwide.
Finished in Iridium Silver Metallic, the interior features soft black racing bucket seats surrounded by Black AMG leather and carbon fibre trim throughout. Technology such as cruise control, multi-function control screen with satellite navigation, and a reverse camera come as standard.
It comes with a complete, up-to-date service history — most recently completed by Mercedes-Benz Melbourne in April 2025 — along with its service booklet, manuals, and spare keys. This vehicle presents in exceptional showroom condition and would suit even the most meticulous classic car investors and enthusiasts.
