One to Buy: 1400km Balmoral Green Metallic 1989 Aston Martin V8 Vantage Volante V580X
During the late 1980s, nothing in class could match Aston Martin’s formidable X-pack-equipped V8 Vantage.
Whereas the likes of Ferrari and Lamborghini only offered models with north of 400bhp in fashionable mid-engined configuration, the full-fat Aston offered comparable punch but with a traditional layout in line with those great Grand Tourers of the past.
Ferrari did of course still have a front-engined model in its line up and, like the Aston, the Italian-made Coupe-only 412 could trace its origins back to the early 1970s. However, the elegant Pininfarina-styled four-seater gave away around 100bhp to its British rival and in terms of style, performance and build quality, the Aston had the edge.
Only 18 examples of the V580X V8 Vantage were produced in left-hand drive Volante trim with a manual gearbox. Today, what must surely be the very best of those is on offer at the Thiesen Automobile showroom in Berlin.
Configured in Rolls-Royce Balmoral Green Metallic with Tan upholstery and Green carpet, Thiesen’s car was tastefully ordered without the contrast piping that proved such a popular option at the time.
Since delivery to its first Swiss owner in 1989, this gorgeously equipped machine has remarkably only covered 1400km and appears to be in as-new condition throughout.
Simply unrepeatable.

In 1986 Aston Martin introduced the last stage of the Vantage V8´s and achieved technical comparison with the shortly before offered V8 Zagato. In this series Aston Martin used the V580X called Zagato engine with at that point 438 PS. These engines still had big carburettors and in 1987 anther step was made and now 438 PS were available (called Big Bore Package). Now these X-Pack called cars stood on Ronal wheels with 255/50 ZR 16 tires.
